But for those in the know, it’s also a city rich in beer heritage, home to two iconic breweries: Cervezas Victoria and Cruzcampo. If you are a beer connoisseur or merely curious about the brew-making process, visiting these breweries is a must when in Málaga.
Cervezas Victoria: The ‘Malagueña and Exquisite’ Experience
Established with a deep-rooted passion for brewing, Cervezas Victoria offers a captivating 90-minute tour that costs just €7. Dates fill up weeks if not months in advance so if this is an experience you want to enjoy whilst staying at Villa Andalucía, it’s essential to book as soon as you can.
Here’s a glimpse of what awaits:
Interesting Architecture: The modern-day brewery, designed by the local Gana Arquitectura studio, spreads across a massive 3,700 square meters. Housing state-of-the-art equipment, it offers an immersive peek into the brewing and packaging stages.
Historical Tidbits: Did you know Victoria’s first brewmaster was German? The guided tour is peppered with such surprising facts, offering insights into the brand’s legacy and its commitment to using only natural ingredients.
Brewing 101: Delve into the intricate beer-making process, starting from malting and boiling the wort to the 12-day storage that results in the delectable Victoria beer.
Beer Tasting Session: Your exploration concludes with a refreshing beer tasting, allowing you to enjoy the flavours of various Victoria varieties. And if you fancy, participate in a workshop on beer pouring.
Memorabilia: As a souvenir, choose from a range of brand-inspired merchandise. The cherry on top? The screen-printed bottle, is reminiscent of the iconic “3/4 bottle” prevalent between the 1950s and 1960s.
Cruzcampo: The Spirit of Soho
Cruzcampo has been winning hearts since 1904. Tucked in the Bohemian Soho neighbourhood of Málaga, La Fábrica Cruzcampo is where craft meets urban chic.
What to expect:
Soho Vibes: Beyond beer, La Fábrica puts on concerts, exhibitions, and events, reflecting the vivacious spirit of the Soho district.
Historical Journey: Dive into the tale of brothers Tomás and Roberto Osborne who, inspired by Seville’s climate and pristine water, introduced Cruzcampo, preserving its essence to this day.
Tours and Tastings: Available on Wednesdays and Fridays at 12:30 p.m, these 40-minute sessions (€10) provide insights into the raw materials and brewing process, culminating in a tasting of four unique Soho craft beers.
TASTINGS: For €15, embark on a one-hour journey where beers are experienced in a novel way. Dive deep into the raw materials, beer tasting, and the art of beer-food pairing.
Remember, reservations are a must and require a minimum of 2 days’ notice, catering to groups of up to 12 people. Also, participants must be 18 or older.
