Autumn in the Axarquia

Autumn in the Axarquia

What is Autumn like in the Axarquia region of Spain?

What is Autumn like in the Axarquia region of Spain? The leaves are turning, and the temperatures are getting slightly lower, however the autumn is not nearly as dreary here in Cómpeta as in Northern Europe! In fact, autumn is one of the most attractive times to visit Villa Andalucía in Cómpeta.

Read on to find out why I love the Axarquia in autumn!

                                       Fantastic Temperatures

Autumn in the Axarquia: having a glass of cava by the pool at Villa Andalucia
Autumn in the Axarquia region of Spain

As I write whilst sitting on the pool terrace, looking out over the beautiful countryside it is 14.00 and the thermometer is showing 19 degrees. The perfect temperature to enjoy a glass of cava and look at the harvest colours on the mountainside. and of course with these temperatures you can  take a long walk in the countryside without boiling or burning!

It is also the perfect temperature to sit and enjoy a drink and a tapa at any time of day on a bustling terrace in the village. Whether your people watching or reading a book, autumn is the time to do it! Lovely to feel the sun on your face.

Slower Pace of Life

In the autumn in the Axarquia region, the majority of the mountain walks in the Axarquia and also the beachfronts on the Costa del Sol and Costa Tropical are largely much emptier than in the busy summer months. So, this makes for a very peaceful experience regardless of the time of day. Stop for a coffee and a piece of cake, or do as the locals do have a brandy with it! And all of this is near Villa Andalucía!

Getting up for an early morning run/walk to see the beautiful sunrise at about 8am and being the only one around is quite unique considering how bustling the area can be during the peak tourism months. You can feel as if you are standing on top of the world if you are in the Parque Natural Sierras Tejeda y Almijara, and yes again on our doorstep, that is right on the doorstep of Villa Andalucía. We have plenty of walks (Rutas de Senderismo) that you can go on from Cómpeta. I have maps that you can use, or GPS maps that you can have on your mobile.

Watching the sunset go down on the terrace by the pool at Villa Andalucia

We must not forget about the lovely sunsets we have in Spain, Villa Andalucía is south facing and there is nothing like sitting in the evening watching the sun go down.

Local Produce

The Axarquia is a hive of rural activity in the autumn! From quince to pomegranates to avocados and mangos, the autumn is when the best produce is available! Have a chat to the locals to see if there are any walks you can go on that you might be able to pick one for yourself as you walk!

Or better still let me arrange a trip for you to an Avocado and Mango farm for tropical fruit tasting, followed by a visit to a co-operative, or how about a trip to an organic olive oil mill and taste the different types of olive oil. Both trips include a traditional lunch and visit to nearby whitewashed villages.

You will be collected from Villa Andalucía and chauffeur driven for the whole of the trip and all Covid19 rules are followed, and you will be in your own small group no more than eight. For more information go to ‘Tours in the Axarquía’ on our ACTIVITIES page, and you don’t have to be staying here to reserve your place.

                                       Autumnal Dishes

Once the heat of the summer has passed, we start to leave the salads, gazpacho and lighter options on the local menus and start looking to richer dishes like lentil stew or one of my favourites.

Al Rico Rabo de Toro Slow cooked ox-tail stew full of full-bodied red wine. You will always see it on the menu of one of our local restaurants don´t hesitate to order it. It’s yummy and you won’t regret it. When cooler evenings arrive, you can sit close to the log fires in several of the restaurants in Competa.

We would love to see you here at Villa Andalucía this Autumn-Winter season so you can get your long overdue dose of Vitamin D!

Go and pick your ROOM now!

What is Autumn like in the Axarquia region of Spain? Autumn in the Axarquia is truly amazing!

Hope to see you soon!
