The Cómpeta Art Walk will take place on Saturday 20th, Sunday 21st, and Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th of April 2019, here in Cómpeta, Spain. NOTE: Monday there are no exhibitions
For the past ten years we have been so lucky to have had our own Cómpeta Art Walk! If you love art, you don’t want to miss this event. This year is the 11th Cómpeta Art Walk!
We have some fabulous creative artists living here in Cómpeta. Eleven years ago, some of them got together and decided to exhibit their own artwork, including ceramics, holding their exhibitions in their own homes or displaying them in the local restaurants or shops, incorporated it into a walk around the lovely village, following a plan.
WOW and what a success it has been!
I can remember the first Cómpeta Art Walk! It took a while to do the walk, due to some of the artist living on the outskirts of the village and high up above the village. If you know Cómpeta, you will know what I mean! We live in a mountainous-whitewashed village. It is now held solely in the centre of village and it is easier to get around, to see all the artists.
Cómpeta has several art galleries, we are so lucky to have exhibitions by artists held here all year round.
This has now grown into an annual event where artist from all over the world attend. This year there are 38 international artists from nine different countries, exhibiting all different kinds of art: textiles ceramics, paintings, photography, video-projections, wood, bronze, steel and stone sculptures. There will be workshops that you can join in and have a go yourself.
Over the past couple of years musicians have also been playing, and over the years this has also grown.
The musicians will be playing in several locations, on different days. We have a fantastic line up—music for all to enjoy. I thoroughly enjoyed it every day last year, made even lovelier as the weather was fine to us as well.
It’s going to be even greater this year!
There are some new activities this year. I can’t wait for the Saturday morning! They are holding a meditation ceremony, and I certainly won’t miss that! Plus a storytelling event on the Sunday.
And, this last piece of news is fantastic for tourists and local residents living in Nerja and Torrox— there is going to be a shuttle bus service running. The shuttle bus service from Nerja and Torrox to Cómpeta will run between 10:00 and 12:00. The return from Cómpeta to Torrox and Nerja between 18:00 and 20:00. Tickets are 4€ each way from Torrox and 5€ each way from Nerja.
