Rum Tasting at Ron El Mondero

March 4, 2024

Get ready to go on a fascinating journey through history at the El Mondero Rum Winery, where the story of rum intertwines with centuries of tradition in the Salobreña and Motril plains.

Since the 16th century, the cultivation of sugar cane has flourished throughout this region, establishing itself as a vital commodity second only to precious metals. The plains of Salobreña and Motril bore witness to the prosperity and significance of this sweet fruit until 2006, marking the closure of the last sugar factory and the end of nearly twelve centuries of sugar plantations and industry.

In this historical backdrop, Francisco Izquierdo, fueled by a deep passion for the history and culture of his hometown, founded the renowned company “Bodegas El Mondero” in 2006. Within their premises, they offer you the opportunity to delve into the fusion of distillation craftsmanship with the rich heritage of sugar cane in the region.

It’s a unique experience that not only celebrates the history but also the distinctive flavor of rum.
